The Jordan Brand team behind the development of the AJ1 Chicago obsessed over every detail of the shoe’s design to bring this nostalgic story to life. Jordan designers studied multiple pairs of original AJ1s in varying states of wear to capture the nuances of their look, described as “lightweight and unworn, but with materials that sat in a box for years and didn’t stand the test of time.”
Leather is a natural material that requires ongoing maintenance. Left for years in a warehouse, leather begins to dry out and leaves visible signs of aging. The Chicago offers hints of breathability in the leather, most notably in the toe box and on the side panels. However, the effect is purely aesthetic.
Jordan Brand designers took note of the condition of the leather on several older pairs of AJ1s. By observing how some of the oils in the leather came to the surface and created different effects to the eye, they recreated a richer look by using premium materials that will last longer for today's customers.
In a nod to the “lost and found” nature of the colorway, the new Chicago features a mismatched box lid nodding to the footwear out of place in back rooms and basements.
Designers added more details both inside and outside the box, which serve as a nod to the shoe promotions once created. According to the Jordan design team, each detail should be recognizable to those who grew up in those days, while also giving new fans of the shoe a chance to experience another time.
One example of this is that each pair comes with a vintage receipt meant to replicate the actual receipts that came into the hands of shoe box collectors. The receipt features images of how shoes were acquired in an analog way before the Internet era.
The AJ1 Chicago is the most coveted Jordan 1. Every time a similar version comes out, it sells out in seconds. The Air Jordan 1 High OG “Lost and Found” promises to follow the same path, and it is a new interpretation of the most coveted retro sneakers that also winks at the stores of the 80s.
The sneakers that until now were known as the "Chicago Reimagined" have finally confirmed their name as the "Lost & Found," and they are not only wrapped in a vintage air due to their silhouette and worn touches, but also due to the details that accompany them in their box.
